Minus is great, but it would be even greater if desktop app would be able to sync certain folders on my computer, like dropbox does. It would be a superb feature for documents, because it's possible that when you're writing a document your computer will crash or something will happen to it and your document is gone. Now for this reason only i'm using both minus and dropbox, but it would be nice to use only one - minus.

That will be it. Syncing feature on dropbox is the most important factor for its success. Please add the syncing to Minus.

I'm also interested in the syncing feature. Its the most important feature because the user only needs to save the document in a local folder and doesn't need to worry about saving it also in Minus. Thats a great feature of dropbox.

John I really think this is a must have, not only for users but from company's as well developers. I'm sure that if your developers go for this and implement it in a good way it will atract the most of the users. The only thing separating dropbox from this service is the sync fuction and that's why dropbox get a very large market share.

Users want something easy, and um acomplished that, the new website is just easy for any rookie users but the sync fuction nowadays is great.

When I say sync I'm also refering to backup, Since the implemention is almost the same.

Just think the users and the market share that minus will gain.

Hell Yes. Isn't Minus team interested in these, even with 108 votes :-O. Well, syncing is one of the features which should come by default in any cloud storage services. Syncing is the only thing stopping me from using Minus. :-(

There's another field on which syncing would be a deal breaker and that is already important at minus: Photographs.

I know I'm not the only one who has photos spread between different computers and/or hard drives. Some of them even duplicated or in different stages of development. I dream about the day when I can have them old together and synchronized and I think there's huge potential.

Forgive me, please, if I bore you with an example...

I'm on a journey and have the pics in my camera. If the memory card fills up I'll move them to my laptop. Maybe I even start working on some those pics (cropping, adjusting exposure, WB, whatever). When I get home I copy those pics and the ones on the card to my desktop 'cause pic files are heavy and easier to edit on it.

If I'm not very dedicated and thorough (which I'm not 'cause I'm not a pro), chances are I'll end up with pics scattered among different places, some of them on their original stage, some them edited, some of them different... How many times, when asked for some photos, have we answered I have them somewhere, I'll send them to you some other time?

And how many times have we really sent those pics?

Syncing a pics folder would allow for fast, easy and convenient managing among platforms. Heck, given minus' awesome photo galleries, I would not have to worry about exporting them to Picassa and/or Flickr and which of them because i'd have them on minus already.

Imagine that previous question:
 - Do yo have that event's pics?
 - Hell, yeah, they're on my minus profile.

Again, it would be a real dealbreaker. For it's convenience for users and for it's social spreading potential.

Here's the thing. Dropbox and other syncing cloud-based file storage apps are already several years down the road. Minus is a new app playing in this space, but (as many others have said above), without syncing, it's not nearly as useful.

Giving minus some time to sort things out would be all well and good if simple, cloud-based file storage & sharing were a brand new thing. As it is, they are late to the game, and the only thing they have going for them is 10 GB of free space (compared to 2 GB free from Dropbox.)

To be honest, I am not sure what the competitive differentiator  is for minus. Maybe visual design and some elements of the user experience? I don't know. So far, it looks like an also-ran, and without syncing, not a very important one.

I signed up just to check it out. Unless syncing is added, I doubt I'll be using minus for more than a week. Back to my Dropbox, which I LOVE because it works perfectly... and syncs seamlessly with my OS file system. :)

Great service.  I really wish everyone elses crap didnt show up on my screen when I log in... I really dont care to be honest...  But folder syncing is a must, worthless without it.  I have an account to test out its capability, but syncing files manually is a huge pain.

Cant wait for it to update.  Once folder syncing is implemented, I will probably stop using drop box completely

So many good services have disappeared over the years because they only provided a "drag and drop" interface and did not offer syncing features. The most notable and recent to change to a sync model is Wuala, which had a great UI, but drag and drop is really not very useful at all. They had to adapt and move to full sync in order to survive.

With Minus, I was an early adopter and have had Minus for a while now, but haven't really used it much. I need to interact with my files. Dropping them into some cloud storage somewhere and then having to download them anytime I want to review or modify them is not useful to me. Likewise, I want to have my files with me when I travel, but not at the expense of having to come home and have several versions floating around, one on the PC, one on the laptop, one in the cloud, one mobile... Sync is the absolute key feature. This I can guarantee. Ask Wuala.

Sorry John...Most of us don't want other updates except the syncing feature. My 18 GB of data on Minus is not as useful as 1.4 GB of data on Dropbox or Sugarsync. Not sure why you and your team is turning your heads away from the syncing. Those fancy features are not at all useful to most of us. All we need is syncing. If you cant make that happen then at least let us know whats your situation around this all syncing feature on your blog. Already 340 votes for this feature. Are you guys sleeping? At the end what's the use of cloud storage without the syncing feature? If you guys can't do it then just shut down your shop and start using dropbox.

I just signed up for minus and installed the client app. At first I thought I was missing something, because I couldn't find which folder minus uses for syncing... until I realized it doesn't sync. :-(

Like others here have said, syncing is a must have feature, and not having it is a deal breaker for the majority of users. Hope minus takes this feature request more seriously.

Sync should be your #1 priority, period. Shelve everything else and put that as your first and only priority. Until then, I'll use Minus, but I'll continue paying for Ubuntu One. Sync is THE main use for cloud storage. The fact that this is not only unavailable but not even in the plans at all is unbelievable. Thanks for listening... if you are listening!

Minus looks great; however, without a sync feature makes it impractical for me to use.  I anxiously await the addition of such a feature!
